The Expendables 3 Movie
The Expendables 3 Movie - Sylvester Stallone brought some fancy names into EX2, gave the helm to action movies pro and now we are waiting for more in EX3. It is hard to think that third movie can bring more action but there are some actors still missing on the expendable list and we hope to see them in The Expandables 3. How much tougher can a tough movie be?

The Expendables 4 announced & website redesign

October 16, 2015

Who would say that after a year when it seemed that Expendables movies are done, they announced that EX4 will be in making. There was some rumors about all female cast "Expendabellas" or maybe going on as a TV series, but nothing about EX4 movie. Then a financial twist happend and China saved the day.

Which was not a big surprise if you think about it. Last Expendables movie didn't do very well in North America, but it did fine worldwide. So hopefully, Stallone will fix problems from EX3, like PG-13 rating and maybe go back to more EX2 style of approach (not too serious) since these movies were made to be like that. Good old funny action movies.....R rated ofc :)

So I guess, I'll be doing redesign of this site soon and move it to Wordpress style (it's about damn time....)

The Expendables 3 BoxOffice flop and what happend

August 23, 2014

So, first week after the release has passed and from all three EX movies EX3 opened worst by far. Only 16 million US BoxOffice on opening weekend and so far worldwide only 44 million. Just to compare, EX2 opened with 29 million in US and took overall cca. 300 million worldwide. I somehow think that will be really hard for EX3. If they managed to cover the expenses of making it and marketing, it will be a small miracle.

Why did it bombed? I can only speculate, but for the sake of speculations I think 3 things.

First one is the cast. To make a whole EX3 cast poster they almost needed a panoramic image to get everyone in one picture. The movie is so overcrowded that most of the side cast gets so little screen time you don't even remember they were in the movie. The "new blood" cast was total mistake. They bring nothing to the movie, even though I respect their real careers, I would trade them all for just 2 minutes of Jackie Chan.

Second one is PG-13. Like what the hell was that? I want blood, curses and destruction in large quantity from Expendables movie. And what do I get, not a single drop of blood. I'm not sure what was the reason for changing rating on the third movie, but the whole point of this franchise was the old 80's action movie feel and those movies were not PG-13. Even though today you can push PG-13 alot so it almost feels like it's R rated, I didn't get that vibe from EX3. So pretty much they shot themself in a foot with rating change since the kids born in this century were not really the targeted audience. Hell, today R rated comedies make more money.

Third one is weak story. Ok, to be honest those type of movies never were strong on story, but c'mon for a 100 million budget I think you can afford little more exotic places for shooting. I don't think theres something wrong with shooting in Bulgaria, but we have been there in EX2. Another Virtualstan country where the story is going on is kinda boring.

Thing worth mentioning is leaked DVD screener 3 weeks before premiere. Even though it prolly did do some damage, I don't think majority people who downloaded the movie would go see it in cinema anyway. The biggest damage of that leaking was that 3 weeks before premiere people started to share their thoughts on IMDB and various movie sites and blogs. So when the movie finally hit the cinema, you already had 50 000 votes on IMDB saying that movie is not that good and those who maybe were thinking to check it out, skipped it and went to see Turtles.

Even though it has its good moments, overall movie was a dissapoinment. Too big cast, PG-13 and weak story maybe just killed this franchise. It's a shame.

Kelsey Grammer as Bonaparte

September 18, 2013

Kelsey Grammer - The Expendables 3Awhile back there was talk that Nic Cage will join the crew, but like we see it didn't happened. Now we get the news that Kelsey Grammer is joining Expendables 3. That might be little out of his usual roles, but he is good actor so why the hell not.

He will play a role of ex-mercenary Bonaparte who will help the EX team in their mission. Now interesting part is that he is replacing Nic Cage in that role, so it kind off made me think - when did those two actors became similar in their roles in movies to be able to fit into same cup :)

Official cast & synopsis

August 19, 2013

Producer Boaz Davidson shared on his facebook page a list of confirmed names for the EX3. Some names it seems won't appear in the move that were rumored before like Milla Jovovich & Jackie Chan with Nic Cage saying he won't be in EX3 himself.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford.

Plus new blood Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Kellan Lutz and Glen Powell - a younger group of tech-savvy action heroes.

"In The Expendables 3, Barney Ross (Stallone), Lee Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought.

Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables, but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet."

Mel Gibson & Antonio Banderas confirmed

August 9, 2013

Well, for Mel Gibson I think it was just a confirmation waiting, but I must say that Antonio Banderas blind sided me. Sure there was some early talks that he might get a role since he wanted to join before but always a bad timing. This time not much talk about him joining and boom there he is :)

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer discussed the castings during Friday’s earnings call with analysts, noting that production will start soon.

These deals are being negotiated up to the last day,” he said. “The franchise is going to have a lot of new and exciting blood in it.”

Harrison Ford instead of Bruce Willis

August 7, 2013

As usually news about cast comes from Sly's twitter, where he announced that Harrison Ford is happy to join in and Sly was happy to get him since he is on his list since the start. Second tweet that came soon after the Harrison announcement was pointing at the Willis, it seems, where he called him greedy and lazy.

Source told THR what was the reason for "Willis is out".

Willis was offered $3 million for four days of consecutive work on location in Bulgaria for the film. "He said he'd drop out unless he got $4 million - a million dollars a day. Stallone and everybody else involved said no."

Stallone then quickly reached out to Ford, who was interested to join the Expendables cast.

The insider adds, "I think [Willis] was pretty surprised he was replaced in 72 hours by Harrison Ford - a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting direction for the film."

New casting news - few new faces

July 26, 2013

Some cast is still under the big ??? if they will be in or not, but as promised to bring some fresh blood, Sly delivered.

The Wrap got some hint about what those new youth be doing.

According to insiders, “Expendables 3″ will introduce a younger group of tech-savvy action heroes who initially clash with the older crew, though they eventually team up to save the day.

Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz and Kellan Lutz

Olympic medal-winning Judo fighter and Mixed Martial Artist Ronda Rousey, the welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and third is actually an actor with roles in the Twilight franchise and will headline the upcoming Hercules 3D (not the one with The Rock).

As for the old dogs who are going to join the cast, we are still waiting for offical confirmations.

Nic Cage maybe not after all

July 20, 2013

At the his promotional tour for his new movie "The Frozen Ground", Cage got asked from people at Den of Geek about his involvment in the Expendables 3 movie and this is what he told them:

"I have not had any formal discussions about that movie", he said.

Then he got clearer, correcting another internet rumor in the process.

"I'm not in Kick-Ass 2 and I don't think I'm in Expendables 3. And I like those guys, but I would say it would be highly unlikely that I'd be in that movie".

There you go, the power of rumors. I think in about a month the cast list will be much clearer or we might get even Sean Connery out of retirement :)

Which would be awesome btw....but rumors are still rumors until we see it on Sly twitter ;)

Sly on his Twitter with usual hints

July 16, 2013

The Expendables 3 movie image

I would guess now that Mel Gibson is in for sure and it appears 100% sure he is a villain since there's only one Mad Max (Tom Hardy, no thx) and only one Barney Ross. So this isn't even a hint, it's more of a confirmation. And the truth is, I can see Mel Gibson as a bad guy in Expendables 3, lately he kind off has a bad rep in Hollywood and this might give him an "acting reboot" since by all means he is a talented actor, just kind off went berserk lately.

Steven Seagal vs Mel Gibson?

July 10, 2013

For a longer time now there has been speculations about Steven Seagal will join EX3. The rumors changed pretty much every month and the newest rummor now came from ExFlix which is reporting that some Bulgarian news sources are already running the news about Seagal joining the Expendables cast. Even more into just joining they are reporting he will face Mel Gibson in fight. Since already it was also rumored that Mel Gibson might join and play lead villain.

The Expendables 3 movie image

One thing that bothers me that some names from first two movies are not mentioned and to be more specific - Terry Crews. I mean he did replace Wesley Snipes and now Snipes is back, but still Crews is just too cool to be left out. Well, the casting is still in "lots of rumors" phase so when there will be offical confirmation I guess we will see who is missing and who is new.

Mel Gibson joining EX3 as a villain?

June 7, 2013

Sly was trying to get him to direct the new Expandables movie, but Mel Gibson was not interested. But it seems that he might be interested in joining a cast and to be honest I could actually see him play the villain pretty good :)

So maybe he will join his former Planet Hollywood buddies and partners Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. There's no confirmation yet, but the source seemed serious.

Basically, there's very little demand to pay for Mel Gibson in a movie theater, even though his movie Get the Gringo was pretty solid one and also he will appear in Rodriguez's Machete Kills. Maybe EX3 gets him back on track with bigger movies and ofc if he doesn't do more scandals that got him in this position in Hollywood in the first place.

The Expendables 3 got the release date

June 5, 2013

There was no surprise there, Expendables love August and both movies so far had mid August premiere, so Lionsgate announced that The Expendables 3 will open in theaters on August 15, 2014.

Terry Crews on Snipes joining EX3

Lionsgate on the current new cast

May 31, 2013

The start of the production of the movie is getting closer - set to start in August, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer mention couple of the names that are in "advanced negotiations" with the studio. Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nic Cage and Milla Jovovich.

Now three of those names were mentioned before, Nicholas Cage a long time ago was a rumor, but it seems he might be in which I wouldn't mind since he is a great actor, just been in financial problems and had to take bunch of movie projects that he would prolly skipped otherwise.

I believe Wesley Snipes is in 100% since he was meant to be in the franchise from the start, but going in prison for tax problems changed that and Terry Crews jumped in. So now when he is out and currently in house arrest for a month or so, he will be ready to join and boy does he need a good push back to the action movie scene.

Milla JovovichJackie Chan is one of those actors that is still missing in the franchise and he has a biggest problem - he is shooting another movie in the same time. I hope he will be able to join and got a proper role cuz he really deserves it.

The newest and pretty much surprise name on the list is Milla Jovovich. Sly did mention that he wants some new female blood in the Expendables 3 and Milla definitely has skills in combat which she perfected in Resident Evil franchise so I hope she will find her spot in the cast, even though I wouldn't mind to see some of the older female action starts in the cast also.

Seagal might be in but Jackie maybe out

May 24, 2013

The Expendables 3 movie image

Now problem with Jackie Chan is the same one why he was not in the EX2, doing another movie in the same time.

He told Getty Images Entertainment: "I would love to work with Stallone. I'm going to meet him and see what happens. I am supposed to be in 'The Expendables 3' but at the time I am meant to be doing 'Chinese Zodiac'.

"I cannot promise you anything but let's see what happens. I would love to do it. I love Stallone."

Jackie previously revealed he was invited to be part of 2012's 'The Expendables 2', but had to turn down the part because of another scheduling conflict.

He previously said: "Sly had invited me to be in '[The] Expendables 2' but I was too busy filming 'CZ12' and couldn't make a commitment to the film."

So Jackie is in Cannes and he was asked...

May 17, 2013

"[The Expendables team] did contact me, but right now I have not read the script yet," says Chan. "I'd love to work with Stallone, but until I get back next week and meet Stallone and his manager, see the script… that's when he'll tell me what happens."

"I'd most like to have a fight scene with Stallone. Though I'd like to team up with him against the bad guy. There are so many action stars involved, it must be so difficult being the director. How do you share out every scene?

I want to do something special, I want to do something special! At the end, it's all small parts, small parts, small parts. I want a big part! I hope I have a big part with Stallone!"

But this fight scene with Stallone... who would win in that fight? "I would", replies Chan with a smile. "I run faster than him."

Expendables 3 got the director - Patrick Hughes

April 24, 2013

Sylvester Stallone played a little game with his Twitter followers Tuesday and the result was his disclosure of the director for The Expendables 3.
That name? Patrick Hughes, best known for the small Australian film Red Hill, which starred True Blood‘s Ryan Kwatten. Check out Sly’s tweets below.

Here are Sly’s tweets about Hughes. If you head to the feed, you’ll see that he really did try to get Mel Gibson to direct as rumored. Below, though, he talks about also trying to get John Woo and that he’d direct it himself if he didn’t have to star.

Wesley Snipes offered role in EX3

April 9, 2013

Sylvester Stallone is set to kickstart WESLEY SNIPES' Hollywood comeback by offering him a role in The Expendables' third installment, according to U.S. reports.

Snipes was released from prison on 2 April (13) after a 27-month stint behind bars for tax evasion.

He is currently under house arrest until July (13), but the Blade actor has already landed his first post-prison role after his Demolition Man co-star Stallone wrote a part for him in the next Expendables movie, according to the New York Daily News.

A source tells the newspaper, "Sly wants to help Wesley get back on his feet. He sees him as a super addition to The Expendables in what will be their biggest adventure yet."

"The script is being processed and Sly wants Wesley to jump on board. Filming is likely to start late this year."

Vinnie Jones: Me and Statham will kick arse

Vinnie JonesVinnie Jones has revealed that he is in talks to star in The Expendables 3.

Jones - who guest stars on Sky Living's Elementary on Tuesday, March 5 - told Digital Spy that he has spoken to Sylvester Stallone about a possible role in the third instalment of the action franchise.

"I've spoken to Sly... and hopefully I will be in Expendables 3," the English star confirmed.

"It's in the very early stages, but hopefully they'll write my character and me and Jason Statham will kick some arse!"

Jones has filmed forthcoming action film The Tomb with Stallone and Arnold Schwarzengger, and appeared alongside Statham in the movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Snatch (2000) and Mean Machine (2001).

Tom Sizemore Eyes Villain Role in EX3

February 20, 2013

Tom SizemoreWe reported last month that Wesley Snipes and  Jackie Chan are in talks to join the cast of The Expendables 3, and today we learned about another potential cast member.

While a deal has not been finalized yet, Tom Sizemore revealed to me that he is in contention to play the main villain in The Expendables 3.

"I might be going back there for The Expendables 3. I'm up for the lead villain. They shot either the first or the second one there, and they're going back there for the third one. I'm up for it, I'm being considered to be in The Expendables 3. How about Sly, coming back like that? Isn't that great? He gave me my first real break in Lock Up. I love the guy. He's never, ever turned his back on me. I don't know if people know that Sylvester Stallone is one of the most decent gentlemen that I've ever met. He's the most consistent friend I've ever had."

John Woo interested in directing EX3

January 7, 2013

The Expendables 3 is in the works, whether you’re excited for it or not. Perhaps the main reason to get excited for the flick is to see who Sylvester Stallone wrangles in to join the ensemble, other than Jackie Chan. But perhaps even more crucial to the movie’s success will be the man sitting in the director’s chair. We’re still awaiting word of the Expendables 3 director but John Woo, who at one point was unquestionably the most exciting conductor of action, says he “will do it”…

In an interview picked up by, Woo speaks about the possibility of directing Expendables 3 with enthusiasm:

I am a big fan of all those guys and I will do it but I want less studio and producer interference. I want to shoot the movie the way I want. That's the difference making a movie in China and Hollywood. In China, The Studio and producer allow flexibility to the director. One thing for sure is, I want it to take place in China.

However, if he's worried about producer interference, he must realize that Stallone likely has the final word when it comes to these films. Could the two coexist on the same set?

Jackie Chan in for The Expendables 3

January 2, 2013

Jackie ChanWe’re a little hesitant to jump on any Expendables 3 casting announcements. After all, we’ve been burned before. But the latest action icon claiming to be part of Sylvester Stallone’s announced sequel is going on record as saying he’s “in,” and his addition would makes sense (and be awesome).

Jackie Chan is busy promoting his latest film CZ12 in Kuala Lumpur. According to Cinema Online, Chan was asked about participating in the third Expendables -- which Stallone has confirmed – and his affirmative answer might have survived the journalist who dared to ask.

"Sly had invited me to be in Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn't make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes,” Chan said.

As the story goes, Chan had even more suggestions, saying that he’d prefer Stallone to make the third Expendables movie into more of a “buddy” template, to which Stallone reportedly agreed. Here’s where we start to grow a little skeptical. Would Stallone really make creative departures from his lucrative formula because Chan had suggested them? I mean, Chan’s an outstanding addition to the Expendables world, but it might have made more sense 15 years ago, when the high-kicking action star was in his prime.

Then again, the “aging action star” is the whole hook of The Expendables, so plugging Chan into the series in a meatier role sounds about right.

Nicolas Cage EX3 Reports False

November 9, 2012

Sylvester Stallone says he “has no knowledge of Nic Cage joining Expendables 3,” the actor told Deadline today, and that reports of negotiations for the Oscar winner to join the latest film in the action franchise are false. Several news outlets reported yesterday that Stallone had confirmed Cage for the next Expendables movie, citing either a Stallone fan Facebook page purporting to be the actor’s own or comments by Stallone that appeared in Spanish daily El Pais earlier this year.

In the El Pais article, Cage’s name — as well as that of Mickey Rourke, who was in the first Expendables, Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes — were noted as additions to a third Expendables. Those statements were made during European junkets this summer for Expendables 2, when Stallone was asked at a press conference who he would like to see in a possible second sequel. Although the Cage rumors are untrue, what is a fact is that Expendables 3 is in the offering.

The Expendables 3 and The Mechanic 2 Confirmed

November 2, 2012

Nu Image and Millennium Films have quietly made a couple of announcements over at the American Film Market, as they reveal their upcoming slate of films. Along with Brad Anderson's Eliza Graves, there's also Automata and Before I Go To Sleep on the firm's sales sheet.

And then two further titles The Expendables 3 and The Mechanic 2.

Even though the film didn't do quite the level of business as the first in the US, The Expendables 2 has still gone on to outgross the original movie. Its current take stands at just shy of $300m. With that in mind, The Expendables 3 is something of a no-brainer, and the agents of ageing action stars are waiting by their phones right now. Pity the fool who does battle with The Statham.

The Mechanic 2 is more of a surprise. The Mechanic was a remake of the Charles Bronson original, with the new version starring The Statham. We liked it, but its worldwide take of $51m meant a follow-up wasn't highly likely. Still, throw in the home disc sales and other ancillaries, and the movie's likely make a tidy profit for Nu Image and Millennium. Hence, a sequel.
